John Tortorella was named head coach of the Philadelphia Flyers on June 16, 2022. He brings 25-plus years of NHL coaching experience to the Flyers (1989-2021), including 20 years as the head coach with the New York Rangers (1999-00, 2008-13), the Tampa Bay Lightning (2000-08), the Vancouver Canucks (2013-14) and the Columbus Blue Jackets (2015-21).

Tortorella is 673-551-170 (.548) in 1,383 career games as an NHL head coach. His 673 career wins rank 14th in NHL history and second among U.S.-born coaches. He has led his team to a division title on three occasions (2002-03, 2003-04 & 2011-12) and has a career record of 56-64 in 120 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He also led his team to the Conference Final on two separate occasions (2003-04 and 2011-12). As head coach of the Lightning in 2004, he led the team to their first Stanley Cup in franchise history defeating the Calgary Flames, 4-3.

Tortorella is one of four head coaches in NHL history that has won the NHL Jack Adams Award as Coach of the Year with two teams, Tampa Bay (2003-04) and Columbus (2016-17).

He also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. Olympic Men’s Ice Hockey team that earned a silver medal at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, and as an associate coach for the U.S. Men’s National Team at the 2005 IIHF Men’s World Championship in Vienna and Innsbruck, Austria.

He and his wife, Christine, are the parents of daughter, Brittany, and son, Dominick. Tortorella and his family support numerous causes through The John and Christine Tortorella Family Foundation. Animal rescue and fundraising for local shelters is a passion for the whole Tortorella family.
